My Beauiful Hometown - Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung ; My Hometown -Shiny , Comfortable , Exquisite , Secure , Free ..... Sunshine and sea breeze nurture the people of this city which has a personality of enthusiasm, friendliness, optimism, and consideration, Kaohsiung always allows people to feel cozy and relaxed while bringing endless pleasant surprises at the same time. Kaohsiung residents, who are zealous and hospitable, like to keep their houses neat and tidy in order to warmly entertain their friends. This is the thinking mode that builds up this city. Entering Kaohsiung whether from the airport, station, highway, or harbor, always brings great spirit to everyone. What a sparkling city! Numerous modernized tall buildings, straight and clean roadways, and a green atmosphere seem to open a gate of grandeur and welcome visitors from everywhere. After entering the arrival hall , you may observe a cozy reception room which is busy with activities. The city office is fearless in facing new challenges, therefore, various grand events are held frequently in order to gain an international spotlight. The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival that annually appeals to innumerable local and foreign visitors, and the Zuoying Wao-Nien Festival that values cutural traditions , are outstanding achievements repeated on the global stage. Furthermore, the forthcoming 2009 World Games, a golbal attention-getting event, will certainly allow people to be pleasantly surprised at the sparkling appearance of Kaohsiung. The objective of all these endeavors is to construct a more comfortable human--oriented environment for the residents, such as: continuing municipal construction, the rapid transit system, setting up public green fields, reconstructing the city landscapes, establishing an arena stadiums and theme hall, opening an E-city fundamental platforms and service systems, improving the infrastructures in both harbour and airport and their traffic network, taking care of the disadvantaged minority, promoting women's and children's welfare, and continuing to conduct community reform projects. If you want to discover a glamorous garden, then you have to slow down your pace, and focus on enjoying yourself easily. In Kaohsiung, you may undergo a beautifrl experience . You would feel like your were in Kyoto in Japan while rambling in the Old Town in Zuoying. Being in Zhongdu would make you feel like coming to a European small town. Strolling along the Love River would make you feel like humming a French chanson. Walking at the musical Fisherman's wharf, you would no doubt feel that the Golden Gate Bridge is just behind you. While taking the Cijin ferryboat, you would feel like you were in resplendent Hong Kong. In addition to these beautiful landscapes, there are various fascinating indoor and outdoor art performances each day in the whole year, that would feed your inner hunger. You would be captivated by the city night scenes filled with glorious lamplights and moonlight-reflected water waves, and be surprised with unique small shops in the alleys. What a glamorous and exquisite city it is!
In addition to admiring this gorgeous city that brings surprises, you would feel touched if you knew how the residents cherish their city. In Kaohsiung, environmental protection is not only a part of living attitude but cherished goal of this big family. Kaohsiung residents have made an all-out effort to support the policy of restriction against using plastic bags and disposable utensils since it has been carried out in this country. The populace cooperates with the policy of not littering that shows citizen awareness, and has tranformed the city into ance neat and tidy appearance. Besides the effort from government departments, the public is also spontaneous in cleaning and beautifying its community. Kaohsiung residents enjoy keeping delightful houses as well. You may easily find out that people doing exercise on Tsai Mountain in the early morning also pick up trash to purify the mountain. Their affection for this city is also an attitude of life. For me,home is the most secure shelter. Similarly, security is the primary requirement to build up an agreeable city. Holding this essential notion, the city officials are ready on the go to strive for establishing a safe and peaceful metropolis. In order to allow residents to have a peaceful and secure environment, several police measures conform to this need: implementing a public security and assist-police system in the community, adding monitors, advancing the first MSN instant report system, ID branding code to free ofcharge to reduce motorbike theft, and the symbol of the coast city--Cijin mounted police. In the end, I just want to say that,"Kaohsiung,I love you-my beautiful hometown! "

Today is 228 Remembrance Day

Today not only is a holiday, but also is a speacial day that we should know. As a colleage student, I think we should understand the history about The 228 Incident and reflection. The 228 Incident, which occurred less than a yearand a half after Retrocession, started out with anti-smuggling personnel and military police units, because anti-tobacco smuggling units dealt with acase inappropriately, which led to a petition by thepeople of Taipei to demonstrate on February 28, anda strike by industrial workers and storekeepers. And because on that day government guards shot at thepetitioning crowds, the confusion could not becontained, and so the petition to punish the murdersturned into a fight against the government, andwent on to become a conflict between the peopleof Taiwan and the mainlanders. The resistance andconflict immediately spread throughout the entireisland, making what was originally just a publicsecurity incident into a political movement.Local leaders took the opportunity to demand all-outreform, and because some areas were armed withmilitary and police weapons, armed conflict ensued. This transformed the face of Taiwan's politics, economics, society and culture in the immediatepostwar period, foreshadowing what was to comeafter 228. The 228 Incident's subsequent influenceon all of Taiwan has been deep and serious. After understanding the history of the 228 incident. I think we should reflectg on the past in the light of the present, the history of the 228 Incident is both deeply educational and inspiring.
